Giving not receiving this Christmas

Sarah Howarth - 23 December 2016

This year we decided to have an office advent calendar with a difference, instead of treating ourselves, we wanted to help those struggling to make ends meet this Christmas.

So for 24 days we brought in food for Cardiff Foodbank to fill our 'Reverse Advent Calendar', counting down to the 16th December to mark our Christmas party and to give the lovely people at the food bank time to distribute before the big day.

Foodbanks are increasingly a last resort for those in crisis. It’s a massive misconception that recipients don’t work or are in avoidable poverty, in fact figures from the Trussell Trust show that 23.31% of people are referred to their foodbanks because of low income, second only to benefit delays at 27.95%. Unfortunately winter exacerbates the problem for many families living on the breadline, who are forced to make a choice between heating or eating. Foodbanks are the light at the end of the tunnel.

We were overwhelmed by the response and delighted to be able to deliver over 100kg of food to Cardiff Foodbank last week.

A massive thank you to all those who donated!
