F1 in Schools
Hi, my name is Alys. I am a Year 10 pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern in Cardiff. I am writing this blog to tell you about the F1 in schools competition I recently competed in with my school team, Astra. F1 in schools is a worldwide competition in which schools from around the globe compete to design and race a car. As well as complete a sponsorship and marketing portfolio, pit display and presentation.
We are incredibly grateful to have received support from Method4 as our Platinum sponsor in the 2021 UK National Finals. We, team Astra, set the 6th fastest car time in the UK National Finals and placed 12th overall in the competition. The main aspect of F1 in schools is to design your own car which is a smaller version of a real Formula 1 car and race it against other schools. You begin by competing in your home region and then if you manage a podium you earn the chance to race at the National Finals (we are a team for South Wales, therefore, the UK is our national finals). The 2021 rules state that Professional Class 1st, 2nd & 3rd at the UK finals earn a place at the world finals.
Our goal for 2022 is to qualify for the UK finals and if we manage that again we would love to earn a world finals appearance, but more importantly, we want to learn and have fun together! There are many other aspects to this competition such as creating a pit display, 10-page portfolio, a 10-minute team video and so much more. Method4 has been such a fantastic sponsor this year offering us technical advice and a lot more support.
We, team Astra, are extremely thankful for Method4’s generosity and have to have had them by our side. Without the support of sponsors, we would never be able to compete in such amazing competitions.
