Method4's Marathon Walk

Every year at Method4, we set ourselves a challenge to raise money for a worthy cause and give something positive back to the community. In September, it was time to stop typing, turn off our computers and throw ourselves into action.

Earlier in the year we had decided to tackle a marathon walk from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff Bay to raise money for the fantastic work done by Cancer Research Wales. Cancer is a disease that we will probably all encounter, either directly or through a friend or family member, and is very close to heart for some of the team.

We set off from Merthyr Tydfil at 9am, walking along the Taff Trail for 27.5 miles all the way down to Cardiff Bay.  Although it originally seemed less strenuous than last years Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, where Method4 climbed the three highest peaks in Wales. We were quickly proven wrong, as we completed the first leg of the journey with considerably more blisters than we started. However even when spirits seemed low the team managed to come together to keep up morale and carry on walking.

Although the walk was harder than we originally anticipated, we completed the walk arriving in Cardiff Bay over ten hours later with considerably less snacks and a great deal more blisters. However there was a definitive feeling of accomplishment as the team limped their way to the finish.

It was a fantastic experience, and everyone tried their hardest and pushed themselves to the limit. We also came together as a team and exceeded our £600 fundraising target, raising over £800 for a very worthwhile cause.
