Key Performance Indicators using SharePoint
21 October 2010
Method4 has provided technical consultancy to the Welsh Language
Board assisting in the design and implementation of experimental
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) deployed through
SharePoint. Each KPI is linked to an objective in the
Board's schemes of work and allows senior managers to monitor
performance via a graphically rich dashboard on the Board's
intranet. In developing the dashboard, Microsoft's Welsh
Language User Interface (LIP) for SharePoint was used, therefore
all functionality was seamlessly provided through the medium of
Welsh.
Craig Hughes, director at Method4 said, "The first challenge was
to build an understanding of what data was available and how that
data could be translated into useful metrics. We then decided
how to structure the data in SharePoint using KPI lists.
Finally, we created the graphical dashboard, which consists of
traffic light icons to indicate if a department is exceeding,
meeting or at risk of failing to meet its goals."
Dr Jeremy Evas, Leader of the Research, Grants and Language
Technology Unit at the Welsh Language Board said, "Using technology
at our offices helps us to ascertain exactly where we're at with
our schemes of work. It also releases staff time, enabling them to
undertake tasks which are of more direct benefit to the Welsh
language. When technology deletes bureaucracy and provides better
information more quickly, it can only be welcomed."
