Bacs website migration
31 May 2009
Bacs (Bacs Payment Schemes
Limited), the organisation behind Direct Debit and Bacs Direct
Credit, is a not for profit, membership based, industry body, which
in 2008 was responsible for processing more than 5.6 billion UK
payments, with a total value of £3.85 trillion.
Recent completion of a successful migration project has resulted
in the Bacs corporate website, (www.bacs.co.uk), now being powered
by Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and .NET. For this complex migration
project, Method4 successfully moved the site to the new platform,
away from Microsoft Content Management Server which is now reaching
the end of its support life with Microsoft. The new Bacs website
was rebuilt from scratch in SharePoint 2007 and leverages the power
of .NET integration to provide flexible new features, and further
enhancing in-house control by Bacs over the daily management of
website content.
The new environment increases the speed of content deployment
whilst providing a controlled release process for content
managers.
"Working with Method4, the transition process was very smooth
and well organised. Method4 are a competent and reliable trusted
partner who were very reassuring in their ability to deliver a
highly technical project in a timely manner, according to plan."
Gill Hughes, Marketing Communications Manager, Bacs
The Bacs corporate website features multiple tiered levels of
user access, online subscriptions and comprehensive FAQ sections.
It covers over four hundred pages of content and hundreds of
documents, both public facing and secure, for the use of member and
agency banks, organisations which are users of the Bacs service,
approved software suppliers and affiliates.
"The Bacs website is an essential resource for all of the key
Bacs stakeholders as well as the wider payment services sector. It
is essential that the site is highly available with content
delivered quickly and in an informative manner. It has been highly
gratifying to have been involved in successfully delivering this
new platform for Bacs." Christian Coates, Managing Director,
